Holy cow this week has been the busiest and craziest week of my mission. I used to always look up to the zone leaders and never really understood all of the things they actually had to do haha. We have been running all over the place trying to make sure everyone is okay and doing what they need to do. Our room is probably the worst room I have ever seen hahaha. if it were a hotel it wouldn't even register one star. There is absolutely ZERO running water and we live on the 4th floor. So we have to carry 5 gallon buckets of water up when our 50 gallon drum runs out haha. But i could probably use the exercise...and we do have hot water. but that's just because we heat it up on the stove before we go use it to shower haha.


This week we had our zone meeting and it was the first time I was actually in charge of teaching it (with my companion). Everything went well and we have a great zone of 18 missionaries that are all excited to work. Talara is a district so that means that the mission is pretty much in charge of it and it consists of just branches. Sunday the power was out but that didn't scare anyone away from bearing their testimony. We went like 20 mins over because people just kept getting up to bear their testimonies haha. But I love it when the people down here bear their testimonies.


We have a few investigators that we are teaching. I and S and their two kids are progressing and reading their Book of Mormon and even came to church with us on Sunday. We also have an investigator named M that is looking for his answer. But we also need to find a lot more people to teach haha. I think that is the problem no matter what area you are in.


Well Christmas is coming up and it will be my last Christmas in the mission. Me and my companion are looking to make this one real special and one we will never forget. One idea was to just work the entire day and not call home until the 26th but we are still in the plans on that one haha. This Christmas is going to be a lot different and I can already tell..I can't wait. Well that's all. Love you guys!

Sharing a little from his email to me... I love Ether 12...some of my favorite scriptures are in that chapter. Especially verse 27 where it talks about our weaknesses and why we have them and how we can overcome them. I'm excited to talk to you guys on Christmas. I knew Daulton's birthday is today. It was crazy because I had a dream about him the other night. I won't go way into detail on that one but it was really cool. I know he's watching over us.

New area...new responsibilities

Well today is transfers! To be honest these past couple weeks have been pretty rough here in Piura. Me and my companion were working our butts off and nothing was happening and we were getting a little discouraged. But yesterday we finally got the a family to come to church as a family so we were really happy about that. We spent three days the past week on a service project painting a family's house. Haha we thought it was going to be a quick deal but it ended up being a lot harder than it looked Hahaha. Today we had a conference where the President told us all of the transfers. I got transferred to Talara and am now serving as a zone leader with Elder Gabedia from Lima. We are pumped to be together and get to work. I am excited to start over with a new area and hopefully see some success! As hard as it was I did learn a ton from Jorge Chavez and made tons of great friends. Just wish we could have seen a little more success. Also my companion finishes his mission this transfer so hopefully we can get him to finish it on a good note haha. Don't really have too much time to write today because of all the time it took to travel but I should have more time next week. Love you guys!

Well this was a really good week for us here in Jorge Chavez. I got a new companion and his name is Elder Soto, he is from Honduras and has been serving as personal secretary to the President for the past 7 months so he is pretty excited to actually get out and work, which is a big relief to me haha. He also speaks fluent English. It's nice to have someone that actually wants to get out and work. We had a really good week and worked hard. We were supposed to have quite a few people come to church but only one ended up coming. I had to talk in church and when I woke up yesterday I just felt like crap. I had a headache and my stomach hurt and I was light headed and everything but I still went up and gave my talk. After Sacrament everyone was asking me if I was okay because I looked pale and sick and we ended up having to go to our room during Sunday School so that I could eat something and rest. I was still feeling pretty sick but we still ended up working in the afternoon and during the afternoon I started feeling better. The members here are awesome and every person we visited was making me a soup or something to drink to help me feel better haha. This week Elder Evans from the 70 is coming to our mission to talk to us on Saturday so we are pretty pumped for that. Well that's pretty much it. Love you guys!

October 13, 2014 Well this was an okay week for us. We had tons of lessons fall through and couldn't really find anyone to teach but we worked hard so we aren't too sad about it. On Wednesday we started an activity in our ward to be able to find more investigators. We figured that since everyone here loves to play soccer that that would be the best way to try and find new investigators. So we started an activity where members can make their own soccer team of less actives and investigators and we are doing a giant soccer tournament. On Wednesday there were tons of people that came and we all had a good time. I finally got to watch conference this week haha. And we had to work hard just to be able to see it haha. When we went to the stake center on Saturday morning there was nobody there except for the missionaries. We ended up going to a different stake center to watch it and missed like the first 15 minutes. But I loved conference. I don't know why but ever since I started my mission conference has been like Christmas for me haha. I like how they talked a lot about the importance of having a testimony and they also made me realize that just having a testimony isn't everything but that we need to constantly strive to strengthen it. My favorite talk was Richard G. Scotts. Today we went and played soccer and basketball with a ton of other missionaries and it has definitely been nice to play basketball these last two weeks haha. Now we just need to see how we can work lacrosse into the schedule as well. Love you guys.

October 1, 2014 This week was a lot better as far as finding new investigators goes. on Tuesday morning our lessons fell through and we were walking down the street and I saw a guy sitting outside of his house reading the newspaper and something told me we should go talk to him. At first I just kind of ignored it and figured he would be like the rest of the people that don't want to talk to us but I felt that we should go talk to him so we did. He ended up being really interested and we were able to answer tons of questions that he had. I love letting the spirit guide us to the people that are ready. The elections were yesterday and that's why I couldn't watch conference. When they have elections the entire weekend is something called "ley seca" which means basically that there are no laws. The only law is that nobody can sell alcohol. So that was pretty crazy hahaha. Today we went and played basketball at the church with a bunch of the elders from the zone and President Rowley even came to play with us. It was freaking hot and I am drained haha. I wish the churches here had indoor courts like at home haha. love you guys.

September 29, 2014 Well this was an alright week I guess. We have been trying to find new investigators and haven't had very much luck. I don't really know whats going on. But we did teach 17 less actives so i guess that's pretty good. Sylvia ended up not getting baptized because of the problems with the ward boundaries so that sucked but at least she will end up getting baptized in the other ward so that's good. I'm a little fired up that I wont get to watch conference this weekend and will have to wait a whole nother week. So don't tell me anything about conference when you write me next week haha. The other day we went and played soccer in the morning with all the other elders and a few kids that were like 12 came. When I picked my team I picked all the little kids and everyone laughed at us. We won 9-5 against all the elders haha. I guess being humble beats talent any day. At least that's what I learned. Well that's all for this week. Love you guys! September 22, 2014 Well this was a pretty good week for us here. We have been focusing a lot on contacting families in the street so that we can baptize more families and it has been going pretty good for us so far. We have found a few new families that are pretty interested. We are supposed to have a baptism this week but we will see how it turns out. It is of the lady that I told you guys about last week that is sick. Apparently there are some problems with the ward boundaries and the other ward is saying that she lives in their boundaries but we printed off maps and everything and showed them but they don't want us to baptize her in our ward. So i guess we will see how that works out. I'm a little mad because the elections in Peru are the first weekend in October and the whole country isn't allowed to have public gatherings the whole weekend. So that means we will be watching General Conference a week late. I a little fired up about that. But i`ll get over it haha. Just don't tell me anything about conference until I get the chance to watch it. That's pretty much it for this week. Love you guys! September 15, 2014 Well this week was a pretty good week for me and my companion Elder Martinez. The first week with a new companion always seems to drag on a little bit because you are trying to get used to each other and everything but we have had a pretty good week and get along great. In our mission we are really focusing on looking for families to teach so we have been trying to find new families and this week we found a few really good families. One of them has 7 kids! Haha I thought huge families only existed in Utah but I guess not. The biggest one I have heard of so far is a family with 18 kids haha. Anyway this week on Thursday we were walking to ward council and a member saw us in the street and ran over to us and she started talking to us about a lady who is really sick and that wants to be baptized. Turns out that all of her kids are members and she has been listening to the missionaries for quite a while now. She was going to be baptized before but she got sick and had to move to one of her kids house. Then she was going to be baptized again and got sick again. So now we are teaching her and her baptism is planned for the 27th of September. Her name is Sylvia. So pray that she will be okay and that everything will work out. We have been playing a lot of soccer lately and the other day we lost 8-7. But the funny thing is that I was the one who scored all 7 goals hahaha. I don't know why I didn't like soccer before (neither does his dad...but he HATED it!). Well that's pretty much it for this week. Love you guys! September 8, 2014 Well this week started out pretty rough for me but it was a really good week (I guess this is Logan trying to make it sound good! Positive attitude!!!). It all started on Monday when our next door neighbors decided to throw a party. In Peru when they have parties it just means loud music and drinking. So when our neighbor told us he was going to have a party and that it was going to be loud, I knew it was going to be a long night (Logan likes his peace and quiet at night...I'm sure this was another trial in learning patience!). Our wall is pretty much just a piece of plywood and they had the speakers right next to our wall. So I pretty much just memorized every song they played haha. At 11:30 I finally just got out of bed and started reading my scriptures. The next thing I knew it was 2:30 in the morning and I was still reading. I decided to just go lay in my bed until they stopped and it finally stopped at 3:30 in the morning. But that really helped me out on my goal to read the Book of Mormon in under two weeks. Which I finished Saturday night. It was an awesome two weeks to just be buried in the Book of Mormon and I learned a lot and strengthened my testimony of it. I know its true. Me and my companion worked really hard to find new investigators and we finally started finding people this week. Other than that there wasn't a whole lot that happened. Today are transfers and my companion got transferred to Zarumilla and I stayed here in Jorge Chavez. My new companion is Elder Martinez and he is from Columbia but has lived in Peru for the past two years. Love you guys.

One Year Down...

Well this week was also really normal. The only really exciting thing that happened was that I completed y first year in the mission on Thursday! It's crazy how fast time has gone by. We celebrated with a couple of families that made cake and dinner and stuff and that was pretty cool. I was freaking stuffed by the time we got to our room haha. This week we also had stake conference and it was a really good conference. They talked a lot about missionaries and members working together to find people to teach and rescuing the less actives. 

It has been a really hard last couple weeks here for us. We have been trying to find new people to teach and haven't been having any luck at all. We have been talking with pretty much every person we see and nobody wants to talk to us or when we go to their house they aren't there. I was reading in the Book of Mormon in Alma and was feeling a lot like Alma did when he was rejected by the people. But i really liked how the Lord told him to be patient and diligent and he would give him success. I felt like it was talking right at me haha. I finished the Book of Mormon about a week ago and set the goal to read it all in two weeks. So far I'm a little over halfway through so hopefully I can pull it off.

Well this week was pretty normal for us here. We are still trying to find investigators and haven't been having any luck. We are just working with tons of less actives right now and a few of them are progressing and coming back to church. Nothing too exciting happened this week... other than on Monday we made banana bread and chocolate chip cookies at a members house and it turned out awesome. Then yesterday we were cooking with them again and we made ratatouille haha. Other than that I can't think of to much that happened here. It's getting hotter down here and that means that we are going in to spring and then summer...so  hopefully I survive another summer in Piura haha...Piura is the city of eternal heat. I don't have too much to say this week. It was a pretty normal and boring week. Hopefully this week will be a little more exciting with me completing one year in the mission and all that haha. There are a few families that want us to go to their house to have a little party and celebrate haha. mi primer añito. que rapido pasò el tiempo. no lo puedo creer. esto es todo por esta semana. los amo.

Well this was a pretty hard week for us here. We spent a lot of time looking for new people to teach, without any luck. We had a hard time keeping in contact with the people we have been teaching and weren't able to talk to all of them. But on Thursday we had a ward talent show and it was pretty cool. Well at least the part we got to see. We planned on starting at 730 and at 900 they finally got things going haha. We ended up doing a sketch (hahaha...this was Logan's translation! I'm sure he meant SKIT! He's loosing his English skills!)  with the young single adults in the ward that was pretty funny and then after that it was late and we had to get back to our room. They all stayed there til like 1 in the morning hahah. Anyway on Saturday we were doing some contacting and contacted this old guy. We started talking to him and he told us that he was busy and that we could come another day. We asked him what day and then he said he is never home and always working. So we just took it as he wasn't interested and invited him to church and left. But to our surprise as we were sitting in sacrament meeting yesterday he walked in and sat down. After he told us he really liked the church and was going to come again and we set up an appointment to go and teach him. It was pretty cool and I was surprised haha. Today when we were walking in Piura I stepped down off of the curb to cross the road and stepped right in a giant hole and destroyed my ankle. So I might be in for a long week with this haha.  Well that's all. Love you guys.

New Things...

Well this was a good week here in Piura. It was kinda long because I am trying to get used to my new area and trying to learn my way around but we have been working hard. Last week when I asked my companion how our area was he told me that we need to find investigators, so we got right to work on that. he was telling me how nobody here even wants to listen to us and I thought he was just exaggerating or something but this is probably the hardest area I have been in so far when it comes to talking to new people. Most people just tell us they are busy and don't even open the door. But I told my companion to not worry about it and to have faith and right after that we started finding a ton of people and now have a lot more investigators. One of them is named Tony. We were walking down the road and i had a feeling we should go talk to him so we went and started talking and he told us the missionaries used to visit him but that we could go visit him. When we left my companion told me that there was a teaching record for him in the area book so we went and looked and sure enough it was there. His only problem was that he never went to church. When we went to visit him he told us that he had read the entire Book of Mormon and that he knows it is true! We went in wanting to talk about keeping the Sabbath day holy and I asked him what are some things he thought he could do to show his faith to god and he told us baptism! haha he told us he wants to be baptized and the only reason he didn't go to church before was because he had health and family problems but now those are gone and he is going to start going to church. So pray that everything goes well with him.

I have been suffering from a cold for the past week and a half and it has been kicking my butt haha. Probably because it has been so freaking cold here at night...cold as in 60`s haha but when you are used to 90's all the time that is actually pretty cold. This area is freaking sweet because we play soccer with all the other elders from the zone Monday's, Wednesday's, Friday's and Saturday's at 6 in the morning. I am actually pretty good now, believe it or not.

So my new area is right behind the airport. God must have known that I needed something like this with everything that has been happening because every time an airplane passes over it makes me think of Dault and smile because I know that's what he loved doing.

Happiest I've Been

Looks like home...basketball in hand...a VERY worn out one!

This was a pretty long but good week for us here in Castilla. It all started on Monday when we were supposed to have two lessons but they both fell through. When we went to the second lesson the lady that we were going to teach was sick and in the hospital so I told them we could go and give her a blessing and they said okay. I felt like we needed to go for our room first but I didn't know why. So I said we were going to go to the room and then go to the hospital for the blessing. When we got to our room there were like 15 missed calls on the cell phone from the zone leaders so we called them and they told us my companion had to go to Lima and they forgot to tell us the day before. Luckily we live right next to the airport and ran there as fast as we could and he made it just in time to catch his flight. 

This week we also set a baptism goal with Tony. He accepted September 9th as his baptismal date and we talked about the importance of going to church to be able to be ready. He was telling us that he was going to go and when we went to his house on Sunday morning he wasn't there and never showed up for church. So hopefully he comes to church. 

Also I had to talk in church yesterday. They asked me last week if I could and I said yes and started preparing a talk. I prepared a talk on forgiveness but when we got there they told us there were two kids that got their mission calls on Saturday and we listened to their testimonies and the spirit was so strong. Then I realized there was no way I could talk about forgiveness after that! haha so I ended up just going up there planning on talking a little bit about missionary work and then 20 mins later I sat down to give the other guy time to talk haha. I just followed the spirit and said what came to my mind and ended up cutting it short haha. I love talking in church now.

Also we had a less active come to church yesterday that hadn't been to church in over two years. He is an English professor and loves talking in English with me and when he got there he told me he felt weird and that he didn't want to be there, told him to just wait and it will go away. Like an hour later me and him were joking around and having fun and laughing our heads off and he looks at me and says, "this is the first time I have laughed and the happiest I have been in like 2 months." haha it was awesome.

No True Endings...Only Everlasting Beginnings

Well this was a pretty long week for me. A long week full of goodbyes. Some expected, others not so much. But the great hope that the gospel brings us is that we will all see each other again. I was struggling pretty bad with everything but then I read Pres.Uchtdorfs conference talk about being grateful under any circumstances and it helped me a lot. The more I read it and thought about it I realized that the endings in this life really aren't endings, they are just short pauses compared to the joy and how happy we will be if we are obedient.

It was hard to say goodbye to all of the friends I have made over the last few months in Chulucanas. Some of them were pretty much family to me. Some even cried. I might have even cried a little too haha. Now I am in Piura in Castilla in the Jorge Chavez Ward. Today is independence day in Peru and there was a ward activity so I already know a lot of members from the ward and I am excited to get to work with them. My companion is Elder Cisneros from Ecuador and he has 3 months in the mission.

How grateful I am to my Heavenly Father that in his plan there are no true endings, only everlasting beginnings.

As Logan mentioned he has struggled with the loss of his friend Daulton...I have had a few emails back and forth with his mission president and he said this has been a trial of his faith...but he is improving. Logan referenced Presidents Uchtdorfs I'm going to include the part that gave him some peace, the talk is from the April 2014 General Conference.

We Are Not Made for Endings

In light of what we know about our eternal destiny, is it any wonder that whenever we face the bitter endings of life, they seem unacceptable to us? There seems to be something inside of us that resists endings.

Why is this? Because we are made of the stuff of eternity. We are eternal beings, children of the Almighty God, whose name is Endless and who promises eternal blessings without number. Endings are not our destiny.

The more we learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ, the more we realize that endings here in mortality are not endings at all. They are merely interruptions—temporary pauses that one day will seem small compared to the eternal joy awaiting the faithful.

How grateful I am to my Heavenly Father that in His plan there are no true endings, only everlasting beginnings.

July 21st

Well this week was pretty normal right up until yesterday. I gave my last talk here in Chulucanas and it was really hard. I ended up crying at the end haha  its hard because I have been here so long and have made such good friends and learned so much from these people and now I am most likely in my last week here.

When we were finishing sacrament meeting yesterday in the last prayer the power went out and like 10 seconds after we said amen a lady and her baby walked in and they were soaking wet. Apparently the water tank above the church fell over and all of the water made the roof of the women's bathroom cave in and there was water everywhere. We were sweeping water out of the church for a solid hour and a half haha. But it was good that nobody got hurt.

We are going to have a baptism this Saturday of a little kid that always goes to church with his grandpa and his parents are finally giving him permission to get baptized so we are looking forward to that.

Today the mission president called me in the morning and told me about Daulton. That was really hard for me. He is one of my best friends and I will definitely miss him. Just gotta trust in gods plan. 

 My email from Logan:  well the mission president called me today and told me about Daulton. That was definitely rough and it will be a pretty rough week. Just gotta try and focus and trust in gods plan. 

Sorry I don't have very much to say this week. I'n kinds at a loss for words right now but keep being strong.

July 14th

Well this has been one of the longest and hardest weeks of my mission but also one of the best. We had a lot of stuff to do and no time to do it but somehow we pulled it all off.


It all started on Wednesday when we had our district meeting. I woke up feeling like crap and my head and eyes were killing me. I couldn't even move my eyes they were hurting so bad. Then on top of that President Rowley came to the meeting to watch and participate so I was a little nervous for that but everything turned out awesome and after he told me that I did a good job and that he really liked the meeting. Then in the afternoon we had to go to Morropon for a baptismal interview and after that we were sitting in the car going back to Chulucanas and the car broke down just outside of Morropon...so we had to sit and wait for someone from Chulucanas to come and pull us back. We ended up getting back to Chulucanas at like 10. When we were sitting in the car our branch mission leader called me and told me I ad to go to Teresa's house (her sons were going to get baptized on Saturday) asap because her sons didn't want to be baptized. Well we ended up talking to them the next day and helped them and they said they would be baptized. On Friday night we had an activity in the church and their whole family showed up except for them and their mom told me that they changed their mind again and didn't want to. So their baptism was planned for Saturday at 7 and as of Saturday at 3 we weren't sure if they were still wanting to or not. We went to the church at 630 and they weren't there, 7 and still weren't there, 730 and nothing. So we decided to go to their house and look for them. When we got there they both walked out in white shirts and ties and the whole family was ready to go to the church. They took forever because they were decorating their house for after the baptism hahahah. But it was awesome.


Today we played the Rowley cup haha all of the zones from Piura played against each other in a giant soccer tournament. We lost in the semis in penalties and I was a little fired up haha but I got over it.

Week of July 7th

Hola Familia

This was a pretty good week for us. We are really trying to focus on finding people to teach. But not just finding normal people, finding the people that are prepared and ready to accept the gospel. We have really been focusing on seeing if the people we are teaching are going to progress or not and leaving them for future missionaries if they aren't. We feel that this way we will be able to find more people and have more baptisms and not waste a lot of time with people that aren't going to progress.

So this week we went to contact one of the references that we had and they weren't there. It was really far away and in a part of our area that I wasn't really familiar with. When we were walking back down the street I had a feeling that we should contact a house that I saw. So we went and knocked on the door and right away they told us to come in. We found out that there are two girls that live there that are members that got baptized almost two years ago. Then later that day we found another lady that is less active. It was funny because we were looking for investigators and we ended up finding less actives and now we can help them to come back to the church.

This Saturday we have two baptisms. They are the two sons of the lady we baptized about a month ago. They are pretty excited and like going to church. They have even been going to all of the young men's activities. It is awesome to see how the gospel is changing this family for the better.

Today we went to Morropon to go to the waterfalls again. It was pretty cool even though I had already gone haha. This week is going to be really busy with meetings in Piura and baptismal interviews in Morropon and baptisms on Saturday but I'm excited to see what happens this week and see what people we can find to teach.
